A Good Film

Wed Sep 5, 2007, 8:39 PM
I have recently watched Géminis, an Argentinian film directed by Albertina Carri.

I haven't seen a film this good in a long time. The story revolves about a sister and brother who have an incestuous relationship. They live in a completely dysfunctional Buenos Aires upper-class family, where the father is a zombie and mother a robot. The parents don't have any relationship with their children whatsoever.

The film has a continuous agonizing, oppressive atmosphere. This mood is reflected in non-existing relationships between different members of the family, the dark interiors and exteriors and sound. One can not help but symphatize with the siblings, although their relationship is an incestuous one. They are portrayed very humanely - it is easy to feel sorry for them.

The ending is dramatic and unsettling - appropriate for such a film. No sweet happy endings here. No wonder - how can an incest end happily? The only thing that I didn't quite understand is the blood sampling shown at the beginning.

I loved the performance of the main actress, Maria Abadi, very much. She is a beauty, so attractive! So I am posting a picture of her here:

Maria Abadi, a beautiful Argentinian actress

My rating: 4/5. Highly recommended. For perverse, sick, but melancholic and longing moods.

You still haven't revealed the secret of the obsucre borders... :)

In photoshop I add a vignette by adding a black layer then changing it's transparency then adding a feathered selection to erase the area that needs to be taken out. But beyond that and to get a similar effect that's a secret, or really just a lot of research. If you wanted to do it on camera, it takes a tripod, a dark semi transparent item, and experimentation.

Thanks, it's simple (in PS) and the final effect looks great.
